Alison Saar's To Sit Awhile installation honors the great American playwright Lorraine Hansberry, author of A Raisin in the Sun, the first play by a Black woman to be produced on Broadway. The installation honors and shares Hansberry's work as a playwright, journalist, and civil rights activist for Black, female, and queer voices. For one month starting in August of 2022, Pillsbury House & Theatre hosted To Sit Awhile, activating the installation through collaborations and events featuring the work of renowned Black artists, local community groups, and a collection of young artists.
